Range-Greek tortoises are found in the Mediterranean. The Greek tortoise lays claim to Northern Africa, Southern Europe(Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey). They are also found in Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Syria, Egypt, and sometimes Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Habitat- Depending on which sub species of Greek it is the landscape and habitats can vary from dry deciduous desert like conditions to grassy shrub like savannas in Europe. These specimens (In the photo) are from Turkey, and can be found in regions of mixed rocky, grassy, shrub like habitats in Eastern European Turkey area.

Diet-Grazing on broad leafed plants, mainly grasses comprise of the Greek tortoises diet in the wild.

Size-Males 7-8” Females 9-12”

Conservation- Vulnerable (IUCN 2.3). Listed threatened and over collection is a main problem for future population of this species.
