Speks Hinge-Back (Kinixys-Belliana-Spekii)

Range- Southeast Africa. Swaziland, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

 

Habitat- Speks Hingeback tortoises live in the grasslands and marshes in South East Africa. These small, unique tortoises are accustomed to very hot and dry conditions seasonally that is relatively common to South African nations. Very rocky, hard soils, marshland like during the wet or rainy season. Speks are a subtropical species of hinge-back tortoise.

 

Diet- Native grasses. Large variety of succulents, cactus and its fruits, broad-leaved plants.

 

Size- Adult size reaching 8”.

 

Conservation- Threatened species due to over-export for pet trade. Numbers are declining in wild habitats.
