State of Texas Adopts Kemp Ridley Sea Turtles as State “Mascot”

Kemp Ridley Sea Turtles in Texas State
The Kemp Ridley Seas turtle is one of 7 sea turtles in the world. It is a critically endangered along with the loggerhead, leatherback, green sea turtle, hawksbill, and flat back ridley, and olive ridley sea turtle. In recent years the known location of the kemp ridley chose nesting sites in the Gulf of Mexico. Some parts of Texas recieve annual numbers in the thousands around Corpus Christi and along southern coastal regions in that part of the Gulf. The kemp ridley has started to become more present in nesting and make land fall as far north as Galveston and port arthur. A great sign to come for this endangered species. Texas has begun its aid in its endnagered in a legislative mascot in a way.
